Baby Mo- Week 9

My persistent fear the last few weeks has been that we were the victims of a pregnancy-test-conspiracy, that there was no way we were actually going to have a baby...

I was wrong!

 "Hi Mom and Dad!"
(The baby's head is on the bottom)

Such a relief to see this little peanut!

The Baby measured just a couple days ahead of what we calculated, but neither the tech or our OB were concerned.  He/She measured at 9 weeks and is almost an inch long!  We were able to hear and see the heartbeat beating away at 176 bpm, such a cool experience!  We even got to see the baby "fidget" (Daniel's description) which was really amazing!  Our due date is now October 21st.

We got to meet our OB for the first time and we really like her!  She seems very open to alternative ideas, as long as they are safe for the baby.  She has a really funny sense of humor and seems like she will be attentive to our first-time-parent concerns.  We really like our OB office, it is very relaxing and "snazzy" (My description)... I would say it definitely more of an upscale type place (Score!).  They gave us a neat tote bag and pregnancy book along with some coupons and a ton of pamphlets.  Daniel loves that they have wi-fi access and I love that they have a ton of magazines.  I'm going to try to remember to take a picture of it next time we go.  Our next appointment is April 15th.

Baby Center says this is what's going on with Baby Mo:
"Your new resident is nearly an inch long — about the size of a grape — and weighs just a fraction of an ounce. She's starting to look more and more human. Her essential body parts are accounted for, though they'll go through plenty of fine-tuning in the coming months. Other changes abound: Your baby's heart finishes dividing into four chambers, and the valves start to form — as do her tiny teeth. The embryonic "tail" is completely gone. Your baby's organs, muscles, and nerves are kicking into gear. The external sex organs are there but won't be distinguishable as male or female for another few weeks. Her eyes are fully formed, but her eyelids are fused shut and won't open until 27 weeks. She has tiny earlobes, and her mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct. The placenta is developed enough now to take over most of the critical job of producing hormones. Now that your baby's basic physiology is in place, she's poised for rapid weight gain."

What Baby Mo might look like:

  • Symptoms/ Side Effects: I usually wake up once during the night to visit the ladies room.  The nausea has mostly subsided and I only feel bad if I don't eat regularly.
  • Cravings: No strong cravings. There are times when some food sounds better than others or when I'll see/hear/think about something and think "That sounds amazing!"  The only thing I have been consistently eating/drinking is ICEEs, I am loving them right now!
  • Highlights of the week: Seeing the baby for the first time!  It was an amazing experience.
  • Lows: None.  This week has been awesome!

We are super excited that everything seems to be going really well and can't wait for October to come around!
